Its been a busy start to a new year for me. I am loving my fifth grade class. We have a total of 26 students. 18 of these students had perfect attendance for the 1st quarter! What a awesome start to the year. We were rewarded with a lunch party at Peter Piper. Thank you Ms Stockton.
We have been working on division in math and the explorers in Social Studies. The students are reading a book about every three weeks. Reading is so important! Now that I am back on my blog I will be adding things from time to time so check back and see what going on in our class.
Students, I usually put something special for you to do or see. If you see this blog, let me know and I will reward you. Until next time, Mrs. Wright

LOOK WHAT'S COMING!
First, spring break is coming March 21-25. Have fun relaxing, spending time with your family and friends and READING, READING, READING. Extra credit to anyone who brings in the title, author, and short summary of ANYTHING they read over break - or the source and short summary of any current events happening in our world.
Second, we are practicing for the Aims Tests which will be April 11-15. Encourage your student to pay close attention in class and learn all they can about test taking. The teachers have super test taking strategies and skills to teach them.
See you in April, Mrs. Wright

I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S FEBRUARY ALREADY !
WE WILL BE EXPERIENCING THE CHINESE NEW YEAR IN HISTORY EARLY THIS MONTH.
STUDENTS WILL TRY CHINESE WRITING AND CRAFTS. ORIGINAL DESIGNS OF CHINESE LANTERNS WILL BE DISPLAYED IN THE CLASSROOM WHILE WE STUDY THE CULTURE AND HISTORY OF THIS HOLIDAY.
FEBRUARY 21 IS PRESIDENT'S DAY. EVENTHOUGH WE HAVE NO SCHOOL THAT DAY, WE WILL PUT A SPECIAL EMPHASIS ON LEARNING ABOUT OUR PRESIDENTS. GO TO PRESIDENTIAL TRIVIA AT http://www.infoplease.com/spot/prestrivia1.html TO FIND OUT WHICH 4 PRESIDENTS ARE ON COINS AND WHICH 7 PRESIDENTS ARE ON OUR PAPER CURRENCY.
EXTRA CREDIT TO ANY STUDENT THAT SEE THIS AND FINDS THE ANSWER.

Happy New Year
Welcome back to school. I hope you enjoyed the Christmas break as much as I did. We have added a few new classroom activities in Social Studies such as "Real Documents from History". Each week the students will study copies of 4 actual documents from different periods of history. This is another way to make history come alive for the students.
